With ESPN losing the rights to the NHL across Europe this summer it led to a lot of confusion and changes to the way we watch NHL in Europe. Badly publicized at first and ignored by much of the mainstream media, fans took it upon themselves to search forums, blogs and the likes to find out what is going on.
We here at PowerPlayGoal.com also feel your frustration, we are after all in Europe so it feels like it is almost our duty to keep you all up to date on what is going on, and we have spent time scouring the sources to come up with the following table. Those of you who have visited us before may recognize it from our last update (Click Here to see), however please note that we have updated it. Thankfully it is looking a little more positive now, with many countries having ESPN America and some having two channels. Spain is still in the dark however as at this time no information can be found.

That pretty much covers the changes to the NHL for now, keep in mind some contracts are only for a year and we shall have to wait and see what moves companies like ESPN make to pick up further markets such as the UK and Ireland. The Nordic regions however are tied into ViaSat for the next few years so these will not change and it is likely there will be no GameCenter Live support there for the future. Notably, whilst ESPN have regained much of the rights in Europe, ESPN Player is now out of the story as the online rights are sold separately to the TV ones, thus allowing a better deal for all fans outside of the Nordic Countries. As a GameCenter Live user myself, I will say it is fantastic, and for any of you with doubts experience has shown it can run well on broadband as slow as 1mb.
