Comic – Super Sunday 3rd Period

Posted by kevkev On February - 7 - 2010

The whole world seems to stop when it comes to The Superbowl. As usual, the NHL scheduled very few games (2) – interestingly, one was a game which started at 3pm. Given that games average about 2-3 hours, that makes timing very tight, with the SuperBowl set to kick off at 6pm.

Comic – Johnny Canuck

And at long last, here is our first comic since July last year.

For those of you who don’t quite get the gag here, the Winter Olympics in Vancouver will be taking place next month, and the Canucks’ rink is being used for hockey games. Because of this, the team has been scheduled to go on a 14 game road trip – the longest in NHL history – over six weeks while the arena is prepared for the Olympics, and then again for the team’s return home. I felt this was analogous to someone being temporarily kicked out of their own house, and couldn’t think of anyone better to represent the Canucks than the very character they were named after, Johnny Canuck.

And speaking of Johnny Canuck, I’ve drawn him very differently to my usual Chibi influenced characters, making him look more like the various logos the Canucks use that feature him.

Comic – NHL 2K9 Wii

Posted by wildwing64 On July - 28 - 2009

It’s now Summer, which means that both EA and 2K will be teasing us with details of their new NHL videogames to be released later this fall. To celebrate the occasion, so to say, we will be making a few comics this Summer which will be about hockey games both old and new, starting with this one…

Some of you might remember our review for 2K9, and those of you who own it will know that it feels very half finished, and is also very buggy; this comic makes fun of just one of those bugs. Basically, when you’re in a fight, if you shake both the Wii Remote and Nunchuck too violently, your health bar will completely deplete, and the other player will not let go, and can still keep punching you. The Officials don’t come over to break the players up, so they’re stuck like that forever. The only way you can end it is to quit the game, which can be very annoying if you’re quite far in.
