War On Logos #8: Creating a generic logo that fans will loathe

So you have just started a hockey team?
Whether its pick up hockey, a new entry into a small league or even a new underground “hockey team” you’re going to want a logo. Logos are very important, as lets face it, it’s what people will associate most with your team besides your name.
The following is a guide on making a generic logo that everyone will loathe for its unoriginality.
Step 1: Clipart
Got Microsoft Word? Excellent, you’ve just made it easier. Search for hockey, player, stick or even just a word from your team name.
If you don’t have Word, then no worries, simply head on over to clipart.com – the perfect resource for generic images.
Here’s my choice of clipart below:
Step 2: Colours
Your current clipart picture currently most likely has no colour resemblance to your team. No problem as we can easily change the colours. Simply open up Paint, or if you’re using a Mac (like me) download a free app called “Paintbrush” and open the file up. Using the paint bucket tool, simply click and recolour the parts of the image. Feel free to use the other tools such as spray can, line drawing and pencil, in any way you see fit on enhancing your logo.
As you can see, I was creative, just like you should be:
Step 3: Wordmark
Might as well make it even more eye grabbing. Add text to your logo with the team’s name – try using generically dull fonts such as Comic Sans, Times New Roman, or everyones favourite Arial.
Place the text so that it’s obscured by the logo and cannot be read easily. It’s going to look great on those jerseys.
Heres my final logo. Isn’t it great?:
Step 4: Save it
Make sure you save it as a high quality gif file (gifs only allow 256 colours to be saved, so you know thats a lot) and make sure theres a white background surrounding it so its easily going to get in the way of any look.
Step 5: Upload it
Admire your creation. Its done now. May I suggest freewebs.com for your teams generic shockingly awful website?
You now have a generic logo that people hate – so now you know how to do it – please, don’t.
